Columbus School for Girls (CSG) seeks a Support Services Visiting Scholar for the 2024-2025 academic year. In this role, the Support Services Visiting Scholar will serve as an educator in residence at CSG for one academic year and work in partnership with our educators to provide expertise and training related to academic and social-emotional support. In partnership with our support services department, the scholar will conduct training, workshops, and special events that enrich the capacity of our educators to provide research-based support for students across the spectrum of learning and social-emotional needs. The Support Services Visiting Scholar will visit CSG for a minimum of six full-day visits throughout the year to provide professional development experiences for faculty and staff, facilitate parent and guardian education, and partner with our support services department to evaluate and refine programs, policies, and practices related to student support with the goal of ensuring a mission-aligned, world-class academic program that prepares all CSG students for college and career.

The Support Services Visiting Scholar will be an independent scholar or an individual from an institution of higher education who is pursuing a doctoral course of study, or serving as an educator in a college or university, whose work focuses on academic and social-emotional support to ensure CSG is able to create and sustain a teaching and learning community that promotes thriving and achievement. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with the skills and experience of the scholar.

Principal Position Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Evaluate and refine CSG's programs, policies, and practices related to student support including accommodations for students needing academic and social-emotional support as well as for those who need opportunities for acceleration and additional challenge.
  • Provide in-house professional development to all faculty and staff to ensure they are equipped with knowledge of best practices within the classroom setting.
  • Provide in-house professional development for our support services department members (math, reading and learning specialists; counselors) to equip them with the most current research and best practices in creating cultures of achievement for all students.
  • Conduct a minimum of six full-day campus visits during the academic year to explore our program and partner with our educators.
  • Facilitate one evening Family Workshop Series event for parents and guardians to support their continued learning in support of their children.

Education Consultant Job Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate existing educational programs, systems, and structures and analyze student performance data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Conducts assessments to determine the educational needs of clients or institutions.
  • Evaluate educational strategies and resources and propose evidence-based solutions.
  • Provides expert guidance on special education services and support, including creating inclusive learning environments for administrators.
  • Monitors and assesses the effectiveness of teaching strategies and interventions and recommends adjustments based on evaluation results.
  • Advocates on behalf of special needs students and their families to ensure access to equal educational opportunities based on familiarity with provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Assists in the development of formalized learning plans (IEPs).
  • Advises department on policy development and implementation.
  • Provides clients with continued support and assistance as they implement recommended adjustments within the allocated budget.
  • Keeps abreast of current educational policies, regulations, trends, and research.
  • Collaborates with educators and administrators to enhance a social-emotional curriculum that aligns with local, state, and federal standards and goals.
  • Build positive relationships with educators, administrators, students, and parents.
  • Ensures educational programs comply with relevant standards and provides training and professional development sessions on best practices for educators to achieve those goals.
  • Recommends and implements assistive technology solutions, provides guidance on integrating technology in the classroom, and evaluates the impact of technology on student learning outcomes.
  • Mentors classroom instructors (Support Services Department) to improve instruction and student engagement.
  • Designs engaging and effective lesson plans and teaching materials.
  • Develops and implements assessment processes for educational programs.

Skills, Competencies & Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will possess the following skills, competencies, and qualifications:
  • Thorough understanding of the latest research on learning styles, intellectual development, knowledge acquisition, and pedagogical practices in the PS-12 setting
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal education regulations, as well as legislation that impacts learning opportunities, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and its application in an independent school setting.
  • Cultural competency, including an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and neurodiversity
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills with expertise in mentorship and professional learning for adults; Flexibility and adaptability with strong interpersonal skills
  • Research, assessment, data analysis, and documentation skills, including the ability to analyze educational data, assess program effectiveness, and identify areas for improvement
  • Master in education or related field required, doctoral degree preferred; Classroom experience or experience as a school administrator preferred
