**Job Summary:** Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of commercial, manufacturing and industrial buildings, manufacturing and industrial equipment, and other structures. Also may estimate, lay out, and schedule jobs under $5,000.00.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Reads work order or receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting.

* Smooths surfaces and removes old paint from surfaces to prepare surfaces for painting. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler. Washes surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover.

* Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting. Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.

* Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.

* Paints surfaces with brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers. Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects. Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.

* Sets up ladders or utilizes man lifts to perform tasks above ground level.

* Will be responsible for interior painting, exterior painting, and machine painting per instructions.

* Maintain, organize, control, inventory supplies, tools, and equipment. Clean and organize shop area. Maintain inventory of spare parts and material. Maintain tools and equipment for maintenance work.

* Prepare signs.

* Use spray booth as needed. Maintain spray booth and spray equipment.

* Responsible for accurate and timely paperwork related to essential duties and responsibilities.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications:**

* 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training.

* Must possess a valid driver's license. Fork lift and aerial equipment certification preferred.

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

**Physical Demands:**

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Will be required to use ladders, boom lifts, scissor lifts, fork trucks and other equipment to accomplish the job.

**Work Environment:**

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to:

Moving mechanical parts and may work in high precarious places;

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles;

Toxic or caustic chemicals;

Outdoor weather conditions;

Extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The employee will work in an environment where the following safety equipment is needed: steel toecap shoes, hearing protection, hardhat eye protection and hair protection.

Abide by all safety guidelines including OSHA regulations, lock-out/tag-out, etc.

Work schedule can be affected by production, downtime and many other variables.

Candidates should be extremely flexible with non-customary schedules and weekend work.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but hearing protection is required in some areas of the plant or during some maintenance activities.
