**Palm Springs Police Department, Palm Springs, Florida**

**Salary:** $39,520.00 - $65,603.20 Annually

Performs intermediate protective service work securing, storing, releasing and documenting obtained evidence according to established state statutes; does related work as required. Work involves the exercise of independent judgment and initiative, and is under the general supervision of the Support Services Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

* Ensures that all evidence/property that has been collected is stored, warehoused and packaged in compliance with state statutes; Maintains all records and related paperwork concerning evidence disposal, release, and/or handling is accurate and complete; Runs serial numbers on property to locate owners; Researches court files for disposition of evidence; Prepares items for Village auction; Lists found property in the newspaper; Transports evidence to lab for testing; Assists police personnel and law enforcement agencies with general information and inquiries concerning submission of evidence; Contacts owners of property to be returned; Maintains property reports for evidentiary chain of custody; Meets with attorneys for viewing of evidence; Testifies in court on chain of custody of evidence.

* Performs record keeping functions; Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from a computer; Maintains various records and makes reports; Maintains files and records pertaining to the department. Employees in this classification will perform other job related marginal duties as required.

**Requirements:**

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma is required, AA degree preferred. Must possess at least three (3) years of experience working in law enforcement and/or evidence processing and handling. A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.

* Must possess a valid State of Florida drivers license. Must obtain FCIC/Criminal Justice Information Systems certification within 6 months of being hired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

* Must possess knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local rules, regulations, ordinances, and other regulatory standards applicable to the work. Requires skill in researching, compiling, and summarizing data, with the ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; knowledge of storeroom methods and sound record keeping practices, with the ability to organize, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction. Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Police Department; thorough knowledge of evidentiary procedures; thorough knowledge of statutes relating to the custody of evidence and property; thorough knowledge of police investigative techniques and techniques of identification; ability to organize, keep detailed records and prepare reports; skill in the use of a computer; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and attorneys.

* Employee must be able to work independently, learn and implement new regulations. Must have knowledge of business English, spelling and mathematics and be computer literate with experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Must be able to harmoniously interact with other employees in an environment of mutual respect and consideration.
