SALARY: 17.42 - 21.78 Hourly USD

JOBSUMMARY: Undergeneral supervision, provides excellent humane care for theanimals brought to and housed within Animal Services. Feeds and provides daily care for animals atthe Animal Services Center; responsible for intaking, micro-chipping, vaccinating,and administering medications and performing humane euthanasia to animals.Responsible for animal husbandry, cleaning and sanitizing animal kennels, pens,and cages. Due to the politically sensitive and high-profile nature of the job,staff must be able to use discretion and have a high level of confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides and ensures the humane treatment and care for animals by providing animal husbandry, kennel sanitation, along with feeding and watering the animals. Ensures epidemiological risks are limited, disease and injury are rapidly observed and follows established protocols to ensure animal health and safety.
2. Ensures that facilities are in good repair and working order by recognizing the need for repairs and reporting them accordingly.
3. Maintains accurate records for animals, controlled substances, and documents according to Federal and State Law and policy. Maintains inventory records of controlled substances and Animal Services supplies. Maintains facilities in a neat and organized manner.
4. Maintains supplies and storage areas in a neat and organized manner, managing inventory and supplies in accordance with established policies and practices.
5. Receives animals from citizens and provides compassionate customer service.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
6. Uses technology efficiently, including animal management software, field operations software, technological programs to streamline and organize workload, and basic office equipment.
7. Routes issues and complaints to the appropriate personnel.
8. Assists with coordination and communication with rescue partners and citizens.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of disease control.
  • Knowledge of the symptoms of animal diseases, basic animal behavior (domestic and wild), care, and basic first aid.
  • Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and/or written means.
  • Skill in managing multiple tasks.
  • Skill in microchipping, vaccinating, and minor medical procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively when surrounded by loud noise.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral or written communication
  • Ability to prepare and keep accurate and detailed records.
  • Ability to articulate and accept constructive correction of the job and associated tasks.
  • Ability to work independent of specific instruction(s).
  • Ability to aid in tasks with coworkers, volunteers and/or citizens
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to water hoses, dishwashers and/or restraining equipment, computer, and copier
  • Ability to decipher labels on but not limited to cleaning agents and medical containers.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to follow specific instructions.
  • Ability to humanely euthanize animals and maintain accurate written and digital records of controlled substances in accordance with Federal Laws.
  • Ability to work well with others and contribute to a positive, engaging work culture.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

High schooldiploma or equivalent. Possession of a validTexas Driver's License with a good driving record.

Ability toobtain and maintain Euthanasia Certification in accordance with 821 of theTexas Health and Safety Code, within four months of employment.

Background Requirements:
This position requiressuccessful completion of a Criminal Background Check, Motor Vehicle Review, Drugand Alcohol Testing, Physical Examination, and HPE - Human PerformanceEvaluation.

Environmental Factors and Safety Hazards:
Subject to chemicals, dust, odor, zoonosis, parasites,mold, aggressive animal(s), and mite hazards.

Work hours may include weekends, evenings and/or afterhour call. Duty assignments may require rotation within divisional unitsbecause of the technical, procedural and or legal knowledge required of theassignment. Some individuals may be appointed to permanent assignments whichmay not require the rotation of duty assignments....
