Description
Each member of InterAct's staff fulfills an important role in furthering InterAct's mission of providing safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and the entire community, as well as saving lives, rebuilding lives, and securing safer futures.
Pathways to HOPE Project (Pathways) was created to mitigate the impacts of trauma in our campers through holistic year-round programming and mentorship. After each child's week at camp in the summer, they can participate in monthly activities throughout the year, alongside counselors and Adult Staff mentors. The goal of these activities is to help them focus on achieving goals for their lives while exposing them to knowledge and experiences associated with nature, college prep, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Our central goal is that through Pathways, we can change the future of children.
The
Part-Time Pathways to Hope Child Advocate position will provide advocacy, support and social instruction to children utilizing services with InterAct.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning of field trips for groups of children aged 7 - 12.
- Participate in monthly Pathways to HOPE weekend field trips, acting as a day camp style counselor.
- Provide part-time afternoon/evening childcare utilizing developmentally appropriate activities and interactions.
- Engage in trauma-informed care practices with children and mentors/volunteers.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the operation of the program.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of services available to children within the community.
- Ability to be empathic and non-judgmental.
- Ability to handle crisis situations while remaining calm and diplomatic.
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as ability to handle crises individually with quality decision-making skills.
- Ability to solve problems and achieve conflict resolution.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals, demonstrate mature and professional attitude combined with a compassionate nature.
- Ability to model positive discipline techniques and patience with children.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills.
Minimum requirements:
Associate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related Human Services or one year of previous experience with victims of domestic and/or sexual violence preferred. Candidates must pass a background check satisfactory to InterAct's standards and adherence to InterAct's COVID requirements....
