**Description**

**JOB SUMMARY:** To perform the primary responsibility of efficient and accurate checking of all vendor deliveries and to perform other functions as required in the receiving department, in an efficient manner within company policy; to ensure that the shift contributes to the financial best interests of the store; to verify and keep accurate records on incoming and outgoing shipments; to maintain a safe and clean environment in the receiving area; to provide excellent customer service.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Responsible for controlling the flow of vendor traffic through receiving doors.

* Receive all merchandise and process all credits according to company policies and procedures.

* Check and verify all grocery deliveries to ensure that the quantity of items listed on vendor invoice is actually delivered and meet stores required policy for quality, count, and condition.

* Verify that all vendor invoices include legible unit cost and pricing, and are properly extended.

* Flag attention to any discrepancies and shortages on vendor invoice and obtain signature of delivery vendor for confirmation of such shortages according to company policies and procedures.

* Communicate promptly to the store manager any problems or situations which may affect the integrity of the store or the vendor.

* Perform accurate posting of all vendor invoices to the receiving log and place all signed invoices in designated secure area.

* Handle damaged spoiled products according to company policies and procedures and assist in minimizing and controlling the level of damaged and spoiled goods.

* Be able and prepared to learn and perform the duties of an experienced grocery clerks position.

* Use receiving equipment to move or convey shipments from receiving platforms to storage or work area.

* Categorize invoice for accounting department.

* Process all vendor credits in accordance with company policies and procedures.

* Maintain required clearances in front of all doors, electrical panels, and sprinkler controls.

* Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with company policies and procedures and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing and consistent basis.

* Keep all warehouse, receiving, storage and spoils areas clean, clear and organized.

* Sweep warehouse floors as required.

* Control the flow of all traffic through receiving doors and area.

* Observe security standards by staying alert and aware of both vendor actions and behavior and the unauthorized presence of customers or sales representatives in the receiving and warehouse areas; report to manager or security any unauthorized presence or abnormal behavior.

* Maintain good communications with supervisors and coworkers throughout the organization.

* Notify store manager of situations or policy violations having an adverse effect on store operating performance or of situations requiring potential disciplinary action.

* Perform any other work-related duties as assigned.

**REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS:**

**Education/Experience**

* High school education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Familiarity with accounting functions and principles desirable but not required.

* Two years experience in receiving operation and retail.

* Position-of-the-like or experience in the role required

**Skills Required**

* Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, markups, percentages, ratios, ad loss, shrinkage, and to apply basic concepts of algebra.

* Ability to handle and verify vendor invoice charges and counts, prices, credits, and complete and submit required documents and reports including inventory and receiving reports.

* Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken words in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephone, and to be able to communicate effectively with others.

* Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand English and Spanish language with proficiency to read and understand instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools, company handbooks, policies and procedures, invoices, credit memos, receiving logs, and other delivery documentation, and other written job?related documents.

* Ability to fill out forms and compose and write business memos and reports.

* Be fully knowledgeable and thoroughly familiar with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department including procedures, policies and operations.

* Be able to perform as well as supervise all duties, and meet the requirements and conditions for both an experienced grocery clerk and an experienced produce clerk.

* Be able to pass a standard drug test and qualify as being drug?free under the legal and medical guidelines permitted by the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988.

**Physical Demands and Work Conditions**

The physical demands and work conditions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities:

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools or controls.

* The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 50 pounds carrying bulk dog food, case cartons of milk or beverages, trash containers, etc. and moderate amounts frequently.

* Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus to check invoices and other written documents.

* Be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items stored in elevated or overhead racks or shelves located above refrigerated boxes, in stockrooms and other storage area; be able to sweep and mop floors, dust and face shelves, and lift and carry out trash containers to be emptied in an outside bin.

* Have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as cleanup requests (due to accidental spills or breakage of glass or plastic containers having liquid contents), shoplifting and other security assistance requests, customer accidents, etc.

* Be able to stock coolers and shelves and endure working under temperature extremes (as low as 20F) in refrigerated storage areas up to 20 minutes at a time.

* Typically, the noise level in the work environment is moderate; however, on occasion, it can be extremely noisy when the employee must enter the compressor/machine room to check on refrigeration equipment.
