POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Scribe plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely documentation in a medical setting under the supervision of a medical provider. Responsibilities include accompanying the provider during patient exams to record detailed information in the electronic medical record (EMR), performing clerical and information technology tasks, operating electronic health records and dictation systems, anticipating physician needs to facilitate clinic flow, and demonstrating good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and self-motivation. Adaptability and versatility are key as the Scribe handles various responsibilities to enhance provider effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity for improved patient flow and satisfaction in a clinic setting.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: High school diploma required.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of HIPAA, medical terminology and human anatomy is strongly preferred. Previous experience as a scribe preferred.

Technical/Computer Skills: Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs; minimum of 60 WPM preferred

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Learning about the medical process and using a team approach in patient supervision and documentation

* Working with a supervising Physician or Doctor to complete and submit medical records

* Entering the patient room with the physician during patient visit to accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to:

* Patient medical history and physical exam,

* Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.

* Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.

* Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up

* Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician

* Ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, and the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record. Alert physician when chart is incomplete.

* Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and for keeping patient information confidential.

* Communicating with patients and supervising Physicians professionally

* Completing all administrative tasks efficiently

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Ability to learn and appropriately apply basic medical terminologies and techniques taught.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

* Strong attention to detail and instruction.

* Ability to observe and to draft a narrative account of events accurately and grammatically-correct.

* Ability to spell, proofread, and edit written documents.

* Keyboard proficiency (approximately 60 words/minute).

* Ability to operate a personal computer and related software applications.

* Ability to communicate and interact professionally with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

* Understanding of and commitment to the appropriate protection of confidential patient information.

* Exhibit basic computer skills including, but not limited to:

* Microsoft Office

* Scanning Documents

* Email Correspondence

* Electronic Medical Record System

* Knowledge of facility policies and procedures.

* Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency.

* Ability to effectively prioritize tasks associated with facility operation.

* Ability to reach above and below the waist, turn, twist and to manipulate small tools (copier, computer, telephone, typewriter, calculator, safe, facsimile machine).

* Ability to handle a variety of repetitive tasks at a moderate level.

* Available to work varied hours (i.e. evenings) as required.

* Ability to drive a motor vehicle to designated sites.

* Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks under deadlines and with short notice.
