The Position

This position is part-time/volunteer.

The Volunteer Park Host at Lake Jennings is a volunteer opportunity with Helix Water District.

Exchange a minimum of 20 hours of labor per week (including weekends and holidays) for a campsite that includes water and electricity under a month-to-month lease agreement. Park Host must have own RV and be willing to live in the campground.

A Park Host helps Helix Water District staff provide an enjoyable experience for the public. The impression made by a Park Host directly influences a camper's stay and whether they will return. As one of Helix' most visible representatives, the Park Host is the eyes and ears of the district, helping to deter vandalism and ensure the rules are followed. Park Hosts greet campers with a smile and offer assistance to help make their stay fun. Park Hosts are courteous in answering questions and introduce themselves when making public contact.

A Park Host sets an example by being a model camper, practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around the host site, and following all of the district's rules and regulations, the same as is required of other campers.

Overview of Responsibilities

Greet and assist customers and provide a positive experience.

Clean and perform routine maintenance on campsites; includes sweeping, litter removal and cleaning restroom facilities.

Collect fees, keep attendance and maintain other records of the park; sell permits for camping and fishing; maintain a variety of records such as ticket sales, fish counts and boat launches.

Assist in the implementation of recreational program goals and objectives.

Patrol and maintain the security of the park.

Ensure the security of the district's reservoir.

Operate a boat to patrol the lake area; patrol the lake's shoreline and water to ensure trash and debris are removed.

Inspect buildings for maintenance needs and properly perform any needed repairs.

Perform landscape maintenance including planting, fertilizing, raking, trimming and cutting back trees, brush and ground cover.

Investigate complaints regarding misuse of the park; notify proper authorities of illegal activities.

Assist any customer 24/7 when asked. Volunteer campsites are identified with signage.

Qualifications

Experience in customer service or maintenance.

Work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance.

A valid driver's license and good driving record.

Must have own RV which is neat, clean and in good working order. RV must have current registration, licensing and insurance; will be reviewed every six months. Recreation Vehicle Industry Association or Department of Housing certification is required.

Ability to work well with minimum supervision and present a positive, professional image of the district and deal effectively and courteously with the public, often in adverse situations.

Ability to maintain a high level of restroom cleanliness.

Knowledge of public relations and customer service.

Basic computer skills, recordkeeping and ability to fill out forms.

Ability to perform a variety of ground, landscape and building maintenance work.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, law enforcement agencies, the public and those encountered in the course of work.

Ability to perform physical work in various weather conditions.

Must be willing to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.

Hours:
Hours of volunteer shifts will be primarily between 5 a.m. - midnight, 5 days a week, which includes Friday - Sunday. Must be able to work holidays. Scheduled shifts are a minimum of 4 hours per shift at a minimum of 20 hours per week. Off days are typically during the week.

RV Size Limit:
Maximum RV size that can be accommodated by a host site is currently 40' or less.

Host Information:
  • T-shirts will be provided by the district.
  • All tools and equipment needed to perform any needed maintenance are provided.
  • Free use of a campsite with water, sewer and electric hookup.
  • Two days off per week
Pets:
Permission must be obtained from the Reservoir Recreation Ranger for any pets that will reside on the host site. Current vaccination records must be maintained for all pets residing on the host site.

This position does not receive benefits.
