Farmers' Market Attendant

This position is responsible to help support the City of Merriam's mission by providing on-site operation and supervision of the Farmers' Marketplace; this is a seasonal role (May to September) with work hours from 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. every-other Saturday, with some weekday availability to secure entertainment and prepare for weekly market.

Requirements

  • Initiate, coordinate, and secure entertainment prior to the market season to increase promotional efforts during operational weeks
  • Retrieve money bag and any special instructions from designated location at Merriam Community Center prior to vendor set-up
  • Set up marketplace per specified plan using equipment from the site storage room
  • Inspect facility, perform cleaning duties for facility, grounds, and restrooms
  • Receive all vendors and assign them to their spaces; collect fees and issue receipts
  • Welcome visitors to the marketplace; monitor and record attendance, conduct surveys
  • Serve as the site safety officer- continuously monitor site and facility for safety issues and correct as they arise; make safety recommendations to supervisor when needed
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and emergency safety procedures
  • Close marketplace- custodial duties; ensure site, grounds, and facilities are clean of litter; wash down shelter floors, when needed; empty garbage receptacles
  • Close marketplace; return all appropriate equipment to site storage room; take funds and paperwork to Merriam Community Center and secure in appropriate locations
  • Financial closeout after each shift; prepare closing report; record critical information for the Recreation Coordinator
  • May assist in planning and coordinating weekly entertainment
  • May assist in promotional and marketing campaigns utilizing social media
  • Promotes City values at all times
  • Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • CPR certification (will train)
  • Must have driver's license with an acceptable driving record


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Basic mathematical computations
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with vendors and members of the public
  • Must be able to read and comprehend instructions both verbal and written
  • Must be physically able to stand and walk on concrete for extended periods of time
  • Must be physically capable of working outside and inside in all weather conditions in a physically active manner

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally is exposed to risk of electrical shock.
