Position Summary:

A Maintenance Mechanic/Technician is responsible for keeping a facility operating and repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen. A Maintenance Mechanic will usually be required to perform a wide range of repair tasks around a facility.

Essential Duties:

Some other tasks a Maintenance Mechanic/Technician may be called upon to do include repair, maintain, and troubleshoot various mechanical and electrical equipment use in or about the processing facility that include but not limited to:
  • Cutting and dicing equipment. Blanching equipment. Packaging equipment such as Ishida scales, check weighers, metal detectors, vertical and horizontal pouch fillers, bag and carton printers, auto case packer, and conveying systems. IQF and freezing machinery. Processing equipment such as wash lines, conveyors, vibrating shakers, centrifugal pumps, bin dumpers, cluster breakers, dewatering shakers. Dosing systems.
  • Enter workorders into JED software program.
  • Effectively communicate with production personnel and other mechanics to identify problematic areas of concern; provide and receive feedback and/or support through collection and analysis of information.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the company's objectives including productivity, yields, food safety, quality, customer service and cost goals; daily work activities should support achieving those goals.
  • Perform daily inspections, emergency repairs and routine adjustments; follow periodic preventive maintenance schedule.

Education & Experience /Skills & Abilities:
  • High School diploma or comparable education
  • 2-3-year experience in industrial maintenance
  • Must have working knowledge of basic protective equipment requirements, Lock-Out/Tag-Out, OSHA, FDA, and GMP as they apply to maintenance personnel.
  • Must have working knowledge of electrical testing equipment such as multimeter, megger, etc.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude in the following areas:
  • Replace automated equipment mechanical components.
  • Read electrical diagrams and identify individual components.
  • Repair, troubleshoot and track conveyors.
  • Replace slicer/cutter blade assemblies and perform the necessary adjustments.
  • Read piping diagrams and blueprints to identify the function of various components for air and water distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of the following areas/systems required:
  • Liquid pumps and pump principles with the ability to rebuild troubleshoot and read pump flow curves.
  • Understand fundamentals and be capable of rebuilding and troubleshooting mechanical drive and centrifugal pump, ie chain drive sprockets, gearbox ratios and pump seals etc.
  • Bilingual/Bi-literate English and Spanish preferred but not required. Must be able to speak, read and write in English or Spanish.
  • Must be able to respond to trouble calls and emergency conditions.
  • Analytical Skills - Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.
  • Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
  • Problem Solving - Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.
  • Safety Awareness - Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
  • Systems Analysis - Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  • Technical Aptitude - Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information.
  • Working Under Pressure - Ability to complete assigned tasks in stressful situations.
  • Active Listening - Ability to actively attend to, convey, and understand the comments and questions of others.
  • Communication, Oral - Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Must be able to qualify for forklift & scissor lift driver's license.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work in cold and wet conditions with the smell of chlorine (inside plant 34 degrees and below)
  • Position requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to work long hours and be available at nights and/or weekends as required by business needs.
  • Working exposed to contaminants (such as pollutants, gases, dust, or odors).
  • This job requires working in constant cold temperature (below 34 f)
  • Standing/walking, crouching, stooping, twisting, balancing, leg/foot use, reaching, overhead extension, handling, pushing/pulling. Carrying objects up to 50lbs
