Public Records Custodian ?The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is seeking to fill a full-time vacancy for a Public Records Custodian in the Division of University Relations & Communications.

**?Job Summary**

?The Public Records Custodian will receive, review, compile and respond to public records requests, following the relevant laws, including Wisconsin Public Records Law, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and UWM procedures; and provide responses as soon as practicable and without delay. The Public Records Custodian will maintain knowledge and provide guidance to the campus community on applicable laws and assist with campus wide training as necessary. This requires consultation with the Office of Legal Affairs, UW System General Counsels Office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice. The Public Records Custodian will communicate with requesting parties, subject of responsive records, campus partners, and other parties regarding status of records request, following the relevant laws and UWM procedures using skillful and diplomatic communication skills. They will also maintain a public records database using excellent organization skills.

**?Minimum Qualifications**

? Bachelors degree by date of hire

? At least one year of experience in a professional environment related to: legal, public policy, government, education, or other environment in which records are the focus

**?Preferred Qualifications**

? Evidence of strong attention to detail and excellent organization skills

? Evidence of the ability to work under tight deadlines, shift priorities, and fulfill requests expeditiously

? Evidence of understanding the WPRL, FERPA, DPPA, and other public policy issues

? Law degree or advanced degree in related field

? Evidence of the ability to handle sensitive information with a diverse group of professional colleagues, students, and other parties
