Employees in this classification operate trucks, tractors and other equipment of comparable complexity in addition to performing manual laboring tasks. Work is usually performed under the general supervision of a foreman or other employee of higher grade; however, constant supervision is not necessary for routine and repetitive tasks which can be completed without difficulty once they are learned.
Employee interacts in a consistently pleasant and helpful manner to fellow employees, visitors, and citizens of the City of Dearborn and demonstrates the highest standards of internal and external customer service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Operates a variety of vehicles to transport equipment and materials.
- Operates equipment, hand tools, and power tools in performing various labor tasks in an assigned area.
- Assists staff in performing sewer, water main, and related repairs.
- Cleans and maintains vehicles, tools, and related equipment.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, fumes, odor, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, intense noise, and travel.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTSEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); related experience preferred; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: - Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License Class A with Air Brake Endorsement
- Applicants hired without a Michigan CDL A License will be hired as a Laborer, and must receive their Michigan CDL A License within 6 months from date of hire to remain employed.
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS: - Satisfactory completion of medical examination, driving record check, and criminal background check prior to start date.
- All appointees are subject to a one-year probationary period.
